With more than 10 years of luxury retail experience and a degree in Fashion Jewellery Design she is a successful jeweller herself and brings a vital combination of business mind and eye for design to this role.

She is passionate about bringing innovation and fresh energy to the gallery, and has the expertise to spot bright new gems in the jewellery field.

With a degree in art history, over five years of experience in arts administration and communications and in-depth knowledge of London’s contemporary arts and crafts scene it is her aim to maximise Electrum’s resources and to keep clients and makers updated with what is happening at the gallery.

20.03.12 – You can currently see the work of two of our makers – Jessica Poole and Jacqueline Cullen – at iconic department store Fortnum & Mason in Piccadilly as part of the exhibition Crafting Excellence: An Exhibition of Craft (until 29^th July).

The show celebrates handmade crafts created by QEST scholars in honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and features wide ranging skills from millinery and glass blowing to leather and jewellery design. 

The Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) was established in 1990 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal Warrant Holders Association and the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. It has since been awarded to 242 craftspeople of all ages to help them further their careers through study, training and work experience.

Jacqueline Cullen won the grant in 2004 to conduct research into her signature material Whitby Jet, a prehistoric black fossil which was first made popular by Queen Victoria in the late 19^th century.

The scholarship enabled Jessica Poole to pursue three months training in micro pave diamond setting in Antwerp. Her Flat Twist Brushed Gold Diamond Ring (pictured), a stunning piece that truly reflects her skills, was not only part of our Christmas show 2011, but has also received praise by critics such as Maria Doulton, who recently chose it as one of her favourite engagement and wedding rings in the influential online magazine The Jewellery Editor.

The solo exhibition Wendy Ramshaw: Inspired runs from the 28th of March until the 26th of May 2012 and showcases a collection of ring sets, brooches, neckpieces and earrings in gold, platinum, enamel, glass, precious and semi-precious stones. Her work is truly inspirational and demonstrates her breadth of creativity and technical virtuosity.

With spring in the air, it’s that time of year to clean out our cupboards and recycle any unused possessions. Daphne Krinos is one of the gallery artists who has featured in many Public Collections and has won prestigious awards including the Goldsmiths’ Company and the Crafts Council. She has also had acclaim in Vogue and her work beautifully complements the floral prints, pastel hues and broderie anglaise trends as seen on the runway for spring/summer 2012.

Daphne enjoys working with clients on special commissions to turn something old into something new and treasured. Commissioning a piece of contemporary jewellery need not be an expensive process but an enjoyable and rewarding one.

Inspired by the British Heart Foundation’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, Electrum and our sister gallery CAA have produced an exhibition showcasing the work of over 37 artists. Members of CAA and Electrum were invited to design and create work (jewellery, ceramics, glass, metal, furniture and textiles) with the central focus of their design being the ‘heart’. The results have been truly outstanding from a hand carved ebony heart with silver valves to a kinetic silver gilt and red enamel one-off heart ring. It really is a show not to be missed.

We also have some exciting gallery news to share with you. The goldsmith and jeweller Jacqueline Mina was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list for her services to art.

Her recent exhibition Touching Gold – hosted at CAA and a number of other institutions – showcased the innovative use of precious metals Jacqueline is renowned for. A new selection of her work is now for sale at Electrum.

As well as looking forward to Christmas, the gallery has some exciting news to share with you. The Goldsmiths’ Company  is commissioning a piece of work by the jewellery designer Anna Wales.

After Anna initially showed her work at Origin in 2010, she was invited to submit some of her work to the Committee Collection to review. They were thrilled with her black and gold boa necklace and asked her to develop further prototypes.

As an employee of Electrum, we are incredibly proud of her achievement and can’t wait to see her final design.
